Jeff from Worldwide Cyclery and today we're going to talk about flat pedals versus clipless pedals or click in pedals or clip pedals or clip ins… Alright so for those of you that don't know the reason these are called clipless pedals is because of toe clips so you'll see an image of them right now as far as I know this happened a long time before I was alive but bicycles had flat pedals like so where you just put your foot on them and then they invented Clips toe clips right so you actually slid your foot in there and you put a strap on there and you strapped it down and that was the first version of an efficient pedal that you were sort of connected to then when they came out with these type of pedals where you actually have a cleat mounted to the bottom of your shoe that clicks into the pedal they called them clip lists because they didn't actually have a toe clip a lot of people are confused on that and you hear the word clipless pedal and if you're just sort of getting into the sport and you don't know why it's called a clipless pedal when it seems like this has a clip or a click in that's why so it's it's the historical way that things evolved no toe clips so these are clipless pedals but you're still locked in so maybe that cleared up some confusion for you if you didn't already know or I just told you something you already knew
